The Lakeland Terrier is one of the oldest breed of terriers existing today. This breed dates back to the 19th century. The origin of this breed lies in the Lakeland district of England. This breed is a result of crossbreeding between the Bedlington Terrier and the Old English Wirehaired Terrier. It was primarily used for hunting vermin, badgers and foxes, and also guarding the farms. The breed was first recognized by the AKC in 1934.
